Emily Margaret Kim is an award-winning film composer from NYC. Often told that her music holds an emotional power that gives goosebumps and leaves hairs standing, Emily seeks to write immersive, story-driven scores. Drawn to the transformative power of music in film, she collaborates closely with filmmakers to create emotionally resonant, narrative-focused work.

Her work has been featured in numerous film festivals, including the Academy Award® & BAFTA qualifying LA Shorts International Film Festival and Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival. She received an Honorable Mention for Original Score at the Cal Film Festival in May 2025. She is set to score her first feature film, a coming-of-age drama, slated for release in 2026.

A classically trained pianist and oboist, Emily studied at the Mannes School of Music (Pre-College) in NYC, and spent her summers growing up playing music at the Interlochen Arts Camp and the Luzerne Music Center.

She has assisted and received mentorship from Grammy-winning and Emmy-nominated film & TV composer Lili Haydn (Ginny & Georgia). She was also among the selected cohort of composers for the ASCAP Foundation Film Scoring Workshop (2025) Composer Spotlight program in New York.

Emily graduated with a dual degree with honors in Music from Brown University, where she studied composition with Eric Nathan, Anthony Cheung, and Butch Rovan. She received Brown’s Muriel Hassenfeld Mann Premium in Music (2023), awarded annually to a female student who excels in music. She is currently attending NYU Steinhardt’s Screen Scoring program for her Master’s. She studies composition privately with Mandy Hoffman and Catherine Joy, and conducting with David Bloom.
